Cristian Bolton looking great and on form... three error-free runs in the bag and consistently 1:15. Bolton heads up the FP2 session at the halfway point with a best time of 1:15.064 and sets a new benchmark for the remaining Challengers, Coleman, Czepiela and Barros.
Barros last to fly in the Challengers' FP2 session.
Kopfstein kicks off Masters Free Practice 2 as he heads into the Chiba track!
Kopfstein already looking more collected out there as he shakes off 3s from his FP1 time, and he's put in a clean first run with 1:06.956. It's a slightly slower but nevertheless still clean second run with 1:07.205 and Kopfstein will no doubt be very happy with that significant improvement today.
Next up, Velarde, followed by Sonka and Muroya.
Velarde quickly grabs the top spot after a great Run 1 check-in at 1:05.731, while Sonka also puts in a clean first run with 1:06.216 but hasn't yet found the pace to challenge Velarde. Still another run to go...
Sonka shaves less than 0.100 off his Run 1 time but it's not enough to topple Velarde from the top spot on the timesheets. Sonka 1:06.132, currently holds second place.
Perhaps not the FP2 that Podlunsek was looking for... two runs, two sets of penalties, two pylon hits... he clocks in a best of 1:12.443 but even without that extra baggage of +3s in penalties it's not a hugely competitive time. Plenty of time to square up before Qualifying tomorrow but not the flying session Podlunsek probably had in mind...
Goulian fires into the track for Run 2 a little too hastily, picking up +1s for exceeding the start speed limit. It's otherwise another solid run from the seasoned Red Bull Air Race pilot, and without the extra second Goulian would have bettered his Run 1 time, but it's not to be.
Goulian sticks around in third with 1:05.883
Hall not able to recreate his FP1 pace and he clocks in 1:05.441 in Run 2, so Run 1 places him in second behind Japan's Muroya for FP2 this afternoon in Chiba.
Le Vot scrubbing around +2s off his FP1 time this afternoon... he's clocked in an error-free performance in Run 2 of his FP2 session with 1:07.536 but has a bit of work to do to move on up the timesheets in time for Qualifying tomorrow. But that clean run will boost his confidence to find an even quicker line in the track.
USA's Kirby Chambliss completes his FP2 session finishing in 7th place currently with 1:06.188... that's a reasonable time for Chambliss but the margins are already getting so close... Just +1.129s off Muroya's top time
Ivanoff putting in a decent performance but it's got the competitive edge that he needs to contend for the podium. But Ivanoff can be a dark horse and bring it in the last few rounds of racing, so we're not reading too much into his FP2 results, and his best time of 1:06.747
Dolderer takes to the track to bring FP2 to a close. He's had the advantage of seeing what the other 13 pilots have laid down today so he's got two jobs to do: improve his FP1 time and take that top spot from home hero Yoshi Muroya...
Dolderer looks a little conservative in his first run, but it's clean and smooth and he clocks in at 1:05.963... but his second run is faster and those vital hundredths of a second that he's found in the track propel the Spielberg race winner up into second place on the timesheets as he brings the FP2 session to a close with 1:05.074 - just 0.015s behind Muroya.
