AND PODLUNSEK IS GO! CHIBA IS GO!
- Pylon Hit!
What a shame for Podlunsek! He's drifted into the pylon at Gate 7 and that's +3s on the clock for the Slovenian
Chambliss citing Gates 4, 6 and 7 as hotspots could catch him out
Chambliss in at 197kts and he's already 3.166s faster in the first split
The splits are looking good for Chambliss and he's sliding through the track smoothly... he's picking up speed and goes full throttle to that Finish Gate with over 5s on Podlunsek!
It's a clean and penalty-free run for Chambliss and the US pilot advances to the Round of 8 with 1:06.509
Bonhomme says Kirby did well, but probably on the lucky side not to have picked up a penalty
Next up, it's Japan's local hero Yoshi Muroya
Muroya missed out on a home podium last year, but he's got 50,000 spectators waiting to see their home favourite grab a win!
Start speed good... but there seems to be an issue for Yoshi! No smoke and that's already +1s extra on the clock for the Japanese pilot! That could give McLeod a leg up
He's flying extremely well though and Yoshi has great pace... that +1s might not be a disaster but he's pushing his Edge 540 hard and he WANTS that place in the Round of 8!
Muroya fast with 1:06.022 but will that +1s make all the difference?
Will McLeod end the dream of 50,000 fans here in Chiba?
McLeod cleared into the track and it's a quick start speed with 198kts... he's already in the green in the splits by +1s
But Gate 5 is a headache for McLeod and he's picked up +2s!
That will be welcome news for the Japanese pilots but not what McLeod needed to contend with... his splits have gone from green to red and he can't find the pace... he's pushing hard!
Heat 3: Goulian vs Lamb up next.
Muroya's team will be scrambling to sort out that smoke issue ahead of the Round of 8... that extra 1s could make or break his bid for the Chiba podium
"We're checking it out and changing the wires" says Muroya on his insufficient smoke problem
"We just need to fix the smoke pump and go" he says. "It's not an easy track, but it's ok for me and let's see in the next flight."
