Chambliss will be looking to improve on that 9th place in FP1...
He might have given imself a taking t because it's a more determined and focused performance that we're now seeing in Run 2
Cleaner, smoother, collected. He's pulling Gs and takes his first sub-1m time here in Spielberg with 59.049, which takes him way up from the bottom of the timesheets to 6th overall so far.
Ivanoff through the Start Gates... he's pushing through those first Gates and hugs the chicane but there seems to be a distinct lack of pace and power so far for the Frenchman.
An unwelcome extra +2s at Gate 6 and a slower performance just got that much slower... Ivanoff finishes his Run 1 with 1:02.361
He's quickly back into the racetrack for Run 2 and it's looking more promising... the Frenchman has a lot of work to do to scrub off time and take his performance up a level to be truly competitive here in Austria. But we're definitely seeing some improvement...
It's looking much better! Cleaner and smoother... no penalties and Ivanoff is through that Finish Gate, sprinting all the way to a 59.912 finish, which places him in 10th overall. It's a step down for the Frenchman but we know he can often leave his best to the very last, so stay tuned...
And here we go... Challengers FP3 is kicked off by Brazil's Francis Barros!
Barros hasn't managed to better his 4th place finishes in FP1 & 2, and as the first pilot out in the racetrack today he's got a tricky job as he sets the bar at 1:11.712, including 2s of penalties. That's a slow start for the Brazilian, who has gone 3s faster in previous practice sessions.
A quicker start in his second Run but he's already picked up another penalty for incorrect level flying at Gate 3... nicely through the chicane on his return pass and he's looking much more on the pace... through Gate 12 cleanly and he's sprinting for the Finish Gate... there's a green split on the board and he's knocked off 2s from his first run with 1:09.632
Sweden's Daniel Ryfa into the track next for his final FP session... the ice man of the Challenger Cup is looking on point here in Spielberg and this FP3 session appears to be no different.
Green splits across the board, a clean run and no penalties. He's looking smooth and unruffled out there and clocks in at the Finish Gate on his Run 1 with 1:06.066, a clean 3.5+ seconds faster than Barros.
Ryfa back in for Run 3, his entry speed is 191.70kts and he's a little slower once more, but he's out of hte chicane and still looking tidy... the splits go green but the buzzer goes and that's 1s extra for insufficient smoke as he pushes hard to regain lost ground... no go for Ryfa on Run 3 despite 1:06.589 including an extra second of penalty, but his stellar clean performance on Run 1 will give him confidence ahead of Qualifying this afternoon.
Next up, it's USA's Kevin Coleman.
Back around and straight into the Start Gate for Run 2... it's a cleaner and more disciplined performance from the young American, more pace but he's still seeming to struggle to find that perfect line as he pushes through Gate 10 and picks up +2s for incorrect level flying. Still, it's a marked improvement and he passes the Finish Gate with 1:09.830 on the clock, still keeping him third out of three pilots so far.
Just a short break while the Challengers switch over. There are 3 Extra 330 LXs in the Red Bull Air Race Challenger Cup, shared between six pilots to keep the playing field level. First three have flown, now it's time to switch over.
