And Brageot goes into the track, slightly slower than Podlunsek with 197.63kts but the splits are in the green all the way through to, he's well on the pace but just lagging in his split times from yesterday... but with NW winds it's again a different track.
He shoots through the Finish Gate at 1:07.060 and takes the top spot. It'll be a nervous wait for the Frenchman with both Bolton and Ryfa still to fly.
Chile's Cristian Bolton is heading into the track.. The Chilean Air Force Major slips into the track under speed, just 195.80kts and it's not long before the buzzer goes for Gate 3, incorrect level flying. That's two seconds he'll have to scrub off somewhere if he wants to beat Brageot.
But he can't seem to cut any more corners and he's in the red all the way to the Finish Gate, +1.582s slower than Brageot. That penalty made all the difference and he takes second position overall with 1:08.643
Just Ryfa to fly now. He's the one pilot standing in the way of Brageot's bid for the win in Rovinj.
The wind is coursing slightly more to the North out on the track. That could be a help in some Gates, but it could lose him speed in the sharp turn for Gate 7
1:07.060 is the time to beat out on the track. Brageot and the Breitling Racing Team will be on the edge of their seats by now.
Just one pylon hit from the Challengers so far. Ryfa has only had a couple of pylon hits all week so it's looking good for the Swedish pilot.
And he's in the track and already in the green with the split times...
Clean through Gate 7, the Swedish Iceman is making his case clear as he scrubs off seconds.. he's green, green, green and unstoppable out there, a clear margin as he heads for the Finish Gate and RYFA DOES IT! The last man out on the track wins by a significant margin and claims the win at the third round of the Challenger Cup
Brageot will be so disappointed! But Ryfa has sent a strong message to the rest of the Challenger pilots that he really means business.
Ryfa 1:05.103, almost a clear two seconds faster than Brageot.
That will propel Ryfa up the Challenger Cup rankings and he'll be vying with Bolton and Kopfstein for those top rankings.
I'm really happy with 2nd. My goal this season is to always be on the podium. Today I had to work out my risk calculator. I flew fast, but I took less angle into the gates because I wanted to fly without penalties.- Mika Brageot
British pilot Paul Bonhomme (@teambonhomme) prepares for his upcoming flight at the 3rd stage of the #AirRace in #Rovinj, #Croatia.
During #MindFlying - a visualization or mental rehearsal process - the pilots imagine every detail of their upcoming performance and the way it feels to carry out each movement in the desired way. This exercise builds both experience and confidence in a pilot’s ability to perform under pressure, while improving both physical and psychological reactions as they race through the course.
10 minutes to go to the first head to head knock-out Round of 14
We're going to see the two MXS-Rs pitched against each other again, as Lamb vs Hall in Heat 4. Heat 5 will see the two Americans go head-to-head.
Current flying conditions:
Air Pressure: 1016.8 mbar
Wind Speed: 7-8kts
Wind Direction: NW
Some insider info from the race airport: The NW wind will help the pilots in Gates 4 and 10 as they’ll be able to turn tighter and there will be less chance of an over G.
Due to the sharp turn to line up for Gate 7 the pilots will lose the speed they’ve gained having the tail wind, once again reducing the chances of Over G.
