We're expecting Sonka to be in the green and he is! But that's the first penalty of the day!
2s for Sonka for incorrect level at gate 4
Right on the edge of our seats here...
but it's red! Looks like Goulian could do it... and then it's GREEN!
That's 1:06.393 even with the penalties! He dug deep in that final part of the track and really pulled it out of the bag right at the critical moment!
Sonka goes through to the Round of 8
Now it's a Breitling faceoff... LE VOT V LAMB
Le Vot is in the track and this head to head will be tough for him... Lamb is a former World Champion and very capable of progressing...
Le Vot sets the pace, he's clean through the track... it's under review from Race Control... and that's a 1s penalty for the vertical turn
The judges are giving an operational violation penalty for anyone who flies the vertical turn incorrectly – they need to stay in the vertical before manoeuvering out
Bad luck Le Vot... it's 1:07.597
Lamb to fly now and this should be easy...
Although we've seen some mistakes when we've least expected it from the Brit this year...
Let's see if experience pays off here
It's all GREEN! and this should be a done deal for Lamb
Job done! It's a 01:04.984 and he goes through!
Kirby Chambliss is the second of the two home race heroes here at Indy... and the fans will be hoping he can get the better of Canadian Pete McLeod to bag himself a seat in the Round of 8
Chambliss is out in the track – currently in 4th overall – he needs a decent points haul here to end up on the World Championship podium at Las Vegas later this month
And Chambliss is clean through the track here, he's putting the pressure on McLeod and it's a 1:05.045 for the American
McLeod follows now... he managed a 1:04 in Qualifying so let's see if he's got more in the tank
We're looking for green on our screens here and that's a strong start for McLeod! He's smooth and controlled, good stuff from McLeod
And second split time is green and he's gaining! It's more than 1s ahead of his American rival!
