- Pylon Hit!
And again, it's the buzzer! Pylon hit at Gate 10... bad times for Podlunsek
We hear the call from the Race Director Jim DiMatteo, with a 'knock it off' command... and that is the end of the first run for Podlunsek
Podlunsek has limited his options here and really has to make good this time and he's back out there...
- Pylon Hit!
And the wind in the track is really wreaking havoc for Podlunsek... buzzer is going again and it's incorrect level through the Start Gate, plus a pylon hit at Gate 4
Juan Velarde is the next pilot on the grid... he'll have to wait while the Airgators get that pylon back up
Kopfstein: The wind is much stronger than the flight before. It looks like it's not blowing that much but in the air it's pretty bumpy and it blew me to the East
Wind conditions in the track:
Max last 10 min: 11 kts, W
197.5kts into the track for Velarde and a great start... then a penalty at Gate 4
He'll have to work hard to compensate for that
Velarde won Qualifying earlier this year in Spielberg but he's been a little under par since...
Another factor our man on the inside has flagged is the thermodynamic impact of the sun heating the concrete areas on the track and how this can create turbulence
Back to Velarde and it's a 59.709 for his first run
And Velarde's second run: 58.542
QUICK RECAP OF TIMESHEET:
Francois Le Vot out now... and he's looking good, it's a promising start...
- Pylon Hit!
Split times move into the red as we progress through the track, and then it's a pylon hit at Gate 11 just as he heads to the final furlong
It's a 1:01.056 including 3s for that plyon... one more run to try to get it right
Back to business now for Le Vot
Another great start and he's not far off Kopfstein's pace here and it's an improvement... just needs to keep it clean and he can be happy with that run. He did his homework while those Airgators got to work! It's a 57.662 and he moves into 2nd place
Canada's Pete McLeod is out next and we're not sure why he's off his game this year
But it's good flying and Bonhomme has got good things to say from the commentary booth
Turn through Gate 2 into 3 was beautifully executed, where the race can be won or lost if the pilots set up well for the later part of the track
McLeod can be happy with 54.933 and he moves straight to the top of the timesheets!
And he's into his second run, strong on the chicane and taking a slower passage through the track
His second time is respectable – 56.604
That should put McLeod in a decent pairing for the Round of 14 head to head tomorrow, making his chances of progressing to the Round of 8 much higher... and that's where the points are claimed
Mike Goulian is good to go!
