Martin Sonka will have his work cut out to beat that time and here he comes through the Start Gate...
And that's an over G call from the tower, but it's not over 12G so he will get his second run... lucky for him!
Second run and he needs to keep his cool... it's not about smashing McLeod's time now, it's about banking a steady run to help his chances tomorrow
It's red on the split times but we know he won't be giving this everything... he just needs to be strategic about getting through clean and with a respectable time on the clock
And he's done that – it's 56.339 and that moves him into 2nd place!
Last competitor in the Master Class Qualifying from Kazan is standings leader Yoshi Muroya of Japan
Cleared into the track and here he comes! 199.2kts through the Start Gate
It's red on the split times but this could be his safe run, but there's the buzzer for incorrect level at Gate 10 and that leaves him with a 58.464 on the clock
That's a 10th position time so this second run really needs to be on point
Second time lucky... we'll see how Muroya does now...
The Japanese pilot is really not on the pace here after a very strong start in yesterday's FP sessions... it's red on the split times and he's losing time the whole way
It's 57.847 for Muroya and that's only enough to leave him in 9th place overall as we end the Qualifying session
Pete McLeod: "It felt good out there and it went to plan. I just went max risk on everything second time and was able to fly clean. I was surprised to hear the 54s. That's pretty fast. I think I'm flying efficiently out there. I hit a couple of pylons on Friday so it's not that easy a track. You don't get any points for Qualifying but ultimately tomorrow's a new day. I won't be doing my Q2 run in the first run tomorrow, it's too much of a risk."
