He'll now have to wait and see what McLeod and Sonka are bringing to the Lausitzring track today
Canada's Pete McLeod now into the track – after three 2nd place results in a row, we are expecting a strong show today
As the winner of Qualifying already 4 times in 2017, he's having the season of his career
Picking up 2s in penalties in FP3, a clean run is essential now
And he manages a personal best here in Germany with a 50.756 for his Q1
Now let's see what he's really got up his sleeve...
This is one of the most tactical and methodical pilots in the field and he's here to take the win and catch up to Sonka, who is just four points ahead of the Canadian
And it's red at the first... and there's the green... and then it's red! But there is the buzzer and it's incorrect level at Gate 10!
Q2 54.626 with 4s after another incorrect level at Gate 11 and that leaves him down in 6th place... which could prove interesting for his pairing tomorrow
Last pilot to fly and current standings leader, it's Martin Sonka!
He's so close to a first title and this is the most pressure he will have felt, with McLeod chasing him close behind
And it's a decent run from the Czech pilot, maybe that's his safe run? He was down in 9th place in FP3 and this run seems slow too...
It's clean and steady, 51.074 for Sonka's Q1
Is there more to come from Sonka? Hall is currently leading the Qualifying with Kopfstein in 2nd and Muroya in 3rd
But the splits stay in the red... and he's homeward bound but it's only enough to finish in 5th – it's another PB with 50.733
Sonka: "I don't know what's happening and we have to check everything. We have to analyse everything to see if we can be even faster."
Dolderer: "It was a good run, I love the location here and all the fans up in the grandstand. The Qualifying has been OK and I'm improving from run to run. I found my rhythm and I'm just half a second behind Matt and I know where I lost it."
