Ryfa collects the maximum 10 points here in Germany, with Berger adding 8 to his... that gives them both 2 race wins each in 2017
CHALLENGER CUP OVERALL STANDINGS:
Now we move on to the Master Class racing, starting with the Round of 14...
Let's get a quick recap of how things stand as we prepare for race 7 of 8 in 2017...
Martin Sonka leads the 2017 World Championship with Pete McLeod in second, Kirby Chambliss third and Yoshihide Muroya in fourth. Those four are only ten points apart, so every championship point counts in the last two rounds. But we've seen in the past that pilots don't always have it all their own way
Yesterday saw an immense return to form for Matt Hall as he flew fastest in Qualifying, leaving the others in his wake
Standings leader Martin Sonka was unexpectedly slow – and he said his team would be evaluating overnight to see if there was a performance issue with the raceplane
We heard that there was indeed an issue with a cylinder, which they are confident has been remedied. Word on the street... Sonka thinks they have 0.5s extra to shave off their time today
So the Round of 14 has given us some exciting head to head matchups...
ROUND OF 14 HEAD TO HEADS:
IVANOFF V SONKA
BRAGEOT V CHAMBLISS
VELARDE V DOLDERER
LE VOT V MUROYA
GOULIAN V MCLEOD
PODLUNSEK V KOPFSTEIN
BOLTON V HALL
First out into the track today is Ivanoff and he's up against standings leader Sonka – this is an all or nothing approach for the Frenchman
And he will set the pace for the Czech pilot to beat and this is a great run for Ivanoff – it's 51.296
Sonka was faster than this yesterday and with the threat of knocking more time off now, we expect him to give his all... there is a chance he could take the 2017 title here today so it is very much all to play for
And he's off! Here we go!
Green light at the end of lap one and he's really in his groove out there!
Green again and he's gaining at every step of the way! It's a clean and smooth run – 50.617 and that's his PB in Lausitz
Sonka is through to the Round of 8!
Heat 2 now and it's another of the French pilots, Mika Brageot who goes up against King Kirby
Brageot and his team are full of confidence here in Germany and they have their eye on the Round of 8 again after a standout performance in Porto
Great work from the young Frenchman! It's a strong time to lay down with 51.141 from Brageot
Chambliss was leading the standings but disappointment in Porto put him behind Sonka and McLeod
