Quick recap – Brageot // Kopfstein // Hall // Muroya // Sonka through with Dolderer currently the Fastest Loser
Our final heat should have been Juan Velarde V Kirby Chambliss but there's been a disappointment for the Spanish team
NEWS UPDATE: Juan Velarde will not participate in race day of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Porto 2017. This is due to the fact that after making modifications to his race plane, the weather prevented Team Velarde from completing the necessary testing of these modifications. He will receive a “Did not start”(DNS).
Velarde suffered a propeller strike yesterday ahead of Qualifying and the team worked through the night to replace the engine and propeller. Technical rules stipulate that sufficient safety testing must take place and sadly, due to the foggy conditions earlier, Velarde was unable to complete this
Chambliss will now have to fly his Round of 14 run and bank a time...
King Kirby is leading the standings after a superb return to form with back to back wins
178.93kts into the track and Chambliss has been steady all week, finishing in 2nd yesterday in Qualifying
Nothing unexpected here for Chambliss and he can afford to conserve energy... to save it for the Round of 8
It's Chambliss' fastest time though so far this week – 1:07.784
Last head to head for the Round of 14 is Cristian Bolton V Pete McLeod
Bolton's had his own issues this week with technical complications
His team has also worked around the clock after missing yesterday's Qualifying and the Chilean pilot has only flown in FP3
But all is good and it's 1:09.729 for Bolton – McLeod would have to make a monumental mistake here for the Chilean to progress
Man of the moment, Pete McLeod is up now
Winner of four Qualifying rounds in a row, he's yet to convert that into a win... could this be the one?
And it's 178.48kts through the Start Gate
Green and green again, this is easy work for the Canadian
McLeod could move to the top of the standings if he takes the win, so he really has that title within his grasp if he keeps his cool
