Red Bull Air Race 2018 - Cannes
For the first time in the history of the Red Bull Air Race, the pilots will be going head-to-head in France, in the beautiful city of Cannes on 21-22 April 2018. With five French pilots in the series (three Masters, two Challengers) it will be their first opportunity to experience a home race, and it will be one to remember.

Le Vot has been putting in some good solid runs but the raceplane still isn't performing, Le Vot needs to break in to the 58s to put him in a competitive spot for this heat... he will know that Hall is capable of going REALLY fast. Le Vot keeps it nice and clean but there's a lack of real horsepower in the track or the French pilot.

Hall through into the track, and let's see if he's got the blistering pace from yesterday.... the split times are looking really healthy and Hall looking relaxed but having to make corrections from the SE blustery breezes... some very controlled flying from the Australian who is looking really at ease in the track. Complete control and he advances with a clean run and the second fastest time of the day so far.

The only way FLV12 can advance is if MHR95 receives a penalty OR a DNF, DSQ or SCO.

The wind is swinging round to a more southerly posiition so there may need to be a few corrections, and Kopfstein is looking like he's going full throttle as he will want to grab his spot in the Round of 8. Clean and not too smooth but the times aren't looking too competitive... it's a slower run from Kopfstein's past performances this week and Velarde is definitely in with a chance here. Has Kopfstein left the door open for the Spanish pilot?

Velarde into the track at 198kts and he's going through that chicane with some speed and finesse... he has flown 57s Qualifying and that surely will give him the confidence to take this heat... the splits have gone from green to red and he's trailing Kopfstein by 0.011s... he just needs a quick boost and he finds his pace in the last section of the racetrack... and it's GREEN! Velarde makes it through by 0.388s to take his spot in the Round of 8. McLeod hangs on to the Fastest Loser spot so there's no more flying for Kopfstein this weekend.

Unfortunately it was not good for me today, but all the preparation was bad for us. Right before the race, we had a lot of problems... I hope that I will be much faster next year. I want to come back to Cannes to do much better because the location is really nice, it's really nice to have so many people here - so many fans here.- Nicolas Ivanoff

I felt good out there, I felt I did what I needed to do... I had the plane where I wanted it to be and built in a little bit of anticipation for the conditions but it looks like they're starting to settle. I think we'll see a lot of aggressive flying coming up in the next round.- Pete McLeod

Sonka into the track at 198kts... yeseterday in Qualifying the Czech pilot took home a DNF result and he'll know he's got to flight smooth and with great rhythm today. He's navigating the track beautifully despite the headwind and it's a conservative pull in there... he's maybe taking too much time in the racetrack and holding back a little too much... he needs PACE! Pitching a little in the gates and he's going quicker in the back end of the track now and that's a clean but lagging time of 58.982.Sonka - 58.982
