Kopfstein currently holding the Fastest Loser spot with 53.766
Matt Hall into the racetrack... will Hall hold his nerve and make it a clean run? He's into the track at 199kts and he's through Gates 3 and 4, some nice lines there and looking super quick. Definitely a more aggressive run from Hall today and he knows that Brageot is really capable of causing upset in Hall's bid for the World Champion title
Hall through cleanly and a blistering pace there as he posts in the 52s. Brageot has got his work cut out.
Brageot cleared into the track... the nerves might be kicking in but the French pilot has really been flying confidently this weekend... nice racing lines... but the buzzer goes and Brageot has picked up +2s for OverG... there goes his chances of a spot in the Round of 8 and a Fastest Loser spot. Huge disappointment for pilot and team there.
Sonka had a poor Qualifying session yesterday, finishing in 12th place with a 54s time.
Sonka seems to have found his pace though and is flying smoothly but there's a real feeling of aggression... he knows what he wants to achieve and his plan seems to be working... a perfect VTM for the Czech pilot and a full throttle performance as he throws down a challenge to his fellow Spanish pilot.
Velarde into the track. He's through the Start Gate at 198ts... he finished in 3rd in Qualifying and his time was 52.9.... he needs to put in the best performance of the week and go faster than any other pilot so far today in order to take Sonka... Velarde pushing hard and a little surge there but he can't match Sonka. Velarde is really lacking power here and his lines are looking less polished today. He's just missed the heat win but crucially takes the Fastest Loser position from Kopfstein.
McLeod took a podium spot last year in Kazan, and we've seen a modest performance from the Canadian here in Russia this year. He's just got to keep it clean.
McLeod races into the Start Gate at 199kts... he's through and 0.001s slower than Chambliss... so close and chasing but it seems he's made a major error and he's picked up +2s at Gate 7... that's McLeod's Race Day done as he has no hope of making up that time or progressing with the Fastest Loser spot. Visible disappointment there from the Canadian.
Goulian says he doesn't want to fly with controlled aggression, and he will be looking to find his perfect racing lines in this Heat. If he progresses he's got some really tough times to contend with...
Goulian through at 198kts and he's not looking quite as settled as we would expect... the splits come in green and he's a clear 2.125s ahead of Bolton. Looking more comfortable now as he passes through the back half of the track... clean and smooth, and a solid time from the American pilot. A relatively easy pass for Goulian but he's got his work cut out in the next round!
Le Vot says he has nothing to lose so it's all about flying hard and on the edge for the French pilot.
He's into the track with 199kts... he certainly seems to be flying hard out there, as he flew around 55s yesterday... he's looking quite comfortable and it's relatively quick for the French pilot. It looks as though Le Vot is going to fly his best time all week... everything is working out with this run and he's cleanly through... the team look ecstatic with that performance!
Le Vot could pick up a Fastest Loser spot or he could win the heat... a great position to be in for the French pilot.
Dolderer went fastest in Qualifying yesterday with 52.615 and today he needs to shave half a second off that result to make it through
- Pylon Hit!
Dolderer flies through the Start Gate at 200kts... a lot of energy in his flight but could he be going too hard and too fast? YES! It's a pylon hit for the German pilot!
That's +3s on the clock for the German pilot. There's little chance that Dolderer can grab a place in the Round of 8, although Dolderer looks as though he's just flying to pick up as many points as he can now. Is it in vain?
