Velarde just gets the smoke on in time as he enters the track. We saw a scatty performance from Velarde in Qualifying yesterday but hes looking more controlled today on Race Day. Lap 1 looks consistent, controlled, calm and the split times are looking good, but through the second lap Gate 13 serves up a penalty as he points the plane in the wrong direction after rolling late, and Velarde knows that's an open door for defending World Champion Sonka.

Let's see if Sonka's performance is marred by the technical issues... it seems not, Sonka is through at 199kts and he's flying with some grace and poise there as he goes 1.9s faster than Velarde who picked up a penalty. Sonka is REALLY quick, so calm despite the disruption, and he's flying penalty free although taking it right to the limit on Gate 16! Sonka goes under review and another tense wait for Team Sonka as he takes the heat and progresses to the Round of 8.Sonka - 1:03.028

Dolderer isn't flying today, so Brageot will progress to the Round of 8, but he will still need to fly a competitive time

Brageot into the track at 199.9kts, he couldn't have had a more perfect start and Brageot knows he has a fairly easy pass here and no one will be forcing any errors, but he's still got to keep the pace. Brageot glides through the long, wide turns and he's looking comfortable, smooth and some very healthy VTMs there. A great start to his racing day and Brageot advances with a quick time, but it places him against Muroya in the R8. A tough matchup!
